Lots of great things have come out of Switzerland but one of our absolute favourites is the wonderful St. Bernard. Any fans of dog related films should check out Beethoven and if you don't love St. Bernard's after that then you don't love dogs!

These warm and loving animals have a reputation as rescue dogs but you don't have to go all the way to the Alps to see how companionable they are. These dogs are renowned for their trustworthiness and stability. They have a gentle nature and very relaxed approach to life.

These dogs get big. If you are thinking of adding one to your life you must have an abundance of space and plenty of money for the mountains of food these big beauties will need to stay happy. Also may be worth investing in lots of cleaning products, slobber can be an issue! If you are able to give a Saint Bernard a loving home then do. They are wonderful dogs; friendly, loving and the truest friend you and your family will ever have.
